  1. Nice video, I got curious at those SMD leds you showed there and decided to go take a look at them and noticed that the manufacturer shows a pretty low current for the color ones compared to the white ones and a pretty lower operating voltage (2v) for the yellow ones. I was wondering if you could help me understand why’s that or if it is a short of error since didn’t saw that indication on other sellers

Also would be great if you could make a video testing those for color temperature, voltages, currents and brightness and see if they are really worth for making stuff

Also, one last question do you think that I’d need to use a heatsink if I wanted to put let’s say 2 parallel 4 series in a PCB as example? Of course keeping some nice spacing between leds to allow better dissipation

    Thanks in advance

    1. Each color will have a different forward voltage because of the different material used to make the dies, that is normal. As for the current, the white ones are higher power, they might even have 2 or more dies in parallel inside the LED, hence the higher current. For the colored ones I don’t think you will need heatsinking but for the white ones a full copper plane might help spread the heat away. Datasheets will give some indication on the power dissipation but with these cheap ones you can never be sure that what you got is what you are seeing in the datasheet.

  2. Nice channel! I also like to order cheap stuff from China, so I will definitely watch all your mailbag videos.

I wonder, have you connected your M8N GPS module to u-center yet to see if it’s fake or genuine?

I’m trying to get a genuine U-Blox Neo M8N but had no luck so far.

Most of the modules you get from China have no Flash chip installed at all. You can easily identify them because they have a QR code instead of a Datamatrix printed on them.

Then there are the modules that look like yours. They often have only a 512 KB Flash (instead of 2MB), so you can’t update the firmware.

They all seem to use the genuine M8030-KT.

Would be nice if you could share your findings.
